BIELLO MARTIN STUDIO is the creative sanctuary and gallery of ceramic sculptor/theatre artist Michael Biello and composer/musician Dan Martin. Biello creates operatic neo-classic crystal chandeliers, sensually-cascading metallic beads of light, and whimsical clay light sculptures. Martin is an award-winning composer and music producer and, with Biello, has created critically acclaimed musical theatre and performance pieces. BIELLO MARTIN STUDIO presents occasional intimate salons of art, music and theater.

Rentals

BIELLO MARTIN STUDIO is special space for intimate recitals and performances as well as readings, receptions, and special events. We have a wonderful Yamaha Grand Piano (C2). The acoustics are excellent. Seats 30 comfortably for sit down events, 50 max for non-seated receptions. Past events include a concert of songs by musical theatre composer Jeremiah Downes, recitals by Canadian soprano Maureen Batt and Philadelphia soprano Meg Townsend, Bowerbird’s experimental music salon, Thirdbird’s post-concert reception for performance artists Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fagion, and a reception for PDPs’ Local Dance History Project.

After visiting the studio to hear Morton Feldman’s music, Philadelphia Inquirer’s classical music critic David Patrick Stearns wrote, “Roughly 30 people were seated in the Biello Martin Studio in Old City to hear Feldman’s late-period Palais de Mari in a room that felt like a parallel-universe Victorian parlor … Chandeliers were everywhere. Expansive cylinders of fringe hung down from the studio’s high ceiling … the music definitely benefited … the sound picture was more compact … and pianist Gordon Beeferman’s digital articulation felt more intense.”
